TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
The Florida State women’s tennis team traveled to Chapel Hill, N.C. Saturday, March 29th, to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Seminoles fell to the nationally-ranked Tar Heels by a score of 6-1. With the loss, the Tribe falls to 13-6 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
The Seminoles battled in doubles action, but were swept in doubles action by the Tar Heels. In No. 1 doubles, Anca Dumitrescu and Mihaela Moldovan fell to Aniela Mojzis and Kendall Cline of North Carolina, 8-6. Florida State’s Amber Tantee and Daniela Gheorghe, playing at the No. 2 position, were defeated by Marlene Mejia and Lee Bairos by a score of 8-6. Brooke Cordell and Christina Denny fell to North Carolina’s Kate Pinchbeck and Tanja Markovic at the No. 3 position, 9-7.
The Seminoles were lead in singles action by Tantee, who knocked off Markovic of North Carolina by scores of 7-6, 7-6. In No. 1 singles, Florida State’s Dumitrescu was defeated by Pinchbeck, 6-3, 6-0. Moldovan, playing at the No. 2 position, fell to Mejia of North Carolina by scores of 7-6, 6-4. At the No. 3 position, Denny was defeated by North Carolina’s Mojzis, 6-2, 6-2. Gheorghe of Florida State lost her match at the No. 4 position to Cline by scores of 6-4, 6-2. Junior Cordell could not hang on her match at the No. 5 position, as Bairos was victorious by scores of 6-0, 6-4.
The Seminoles will return to action Sunday, March 30th, when they travel to Durham, N.C., to take on the Blue Devils of Duke. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
