The Florida State women’s tennis team fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels Friday, April 18th, at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. North Carolina defeated the Seminoles by a score of 4-0. With the loss, the Seminoles fall to 13-10 on the season, while North Carolina improves to 16-7.
The Tar Heels got off to a strong start in doubles action, as they took the first two matches and claimed the doubles point. Florida State’s Anca Dumitrescu and Daniela Gheorghe, playing at the No. 1 position, fell to 16th-ranked Kendall Cline and Aniela Mojzis of North Carolina, 8-5. In No. 3 doubles, Brooke Cordell and Christina Denny were defeated by North Carolina’s Kendrick Bunn and Kate Pinchbeck, currently ranked 40th in the nation, by a score of 8-3.
Florida State, after losing the doubles point, could not get back on track, as the Seminoles allowed the Tar Heels to win three singles matches and clinch the 4-0 victory. Sophomore Denny fell to 67th-ranked Mojzis of North Carolina in No. 3 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Florida State’s Amber Tantee, playing at the No. 4 position, was defeated by North Carolina’s Cline, 6-4, 6-1. Alina Mihailescu fell in No. 5 singles to Lee Bairos of North Carolina by scores of 6-3, 6-1.
