Athens, Ga. – After a successful run at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Southern Regionals Championship, No. 24 sophomore Katie Rybakova heads home to Tallahassee in hopes of getting an at-large bid to the National Indoor Championship.
“I am very proud of Katie’s effort today and her effort throughout the weekend,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “She came across a very good opponent today and the difference between the win and loss was a few crucial points.”
Third seed Rybakova was defeated by the No. 1 seed, Georgia’s Chelsey Gullickson, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. The Coral Spring native concluded the weekend with a 4-1 record, beating out two nationally ranked opponents.
“After her first set, we made some changes to her game plan which she did a fantastic job of sticking to,” said Hyde. “Overall I was very pleased with Katie’s performance. She had a great run in one of the strongest regions in the country. Katie will take a lot from this weekend and use it for the Seminole Invitational coming up.”
Rybakova will anxiously be waiting for this Friday, October 31st, to hear if she receives an at-large bid to compete at the 2008 National Indoor Championships. If chosen, this will be Katie’s second stint as she competed at last year’s National Indoor Championship.
“We are keeping our fingers crossed in hopes of Katie making the National Indoor Championship,” said Hyde.
Hyde, as well as the tennis team, will turn their focus to the Seminole Invitational held in Tallahassee, Fla this weekend. For more information, go to www.seminoles.com.
