Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The Florida State women’s tennis team heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to compete in the 2006 Wilson/ITA Fall South Regional Championships from Oct. 19- Oct. 22. All eight student-athletes will represent the Seminoles with junior Carolin Walter (Bingen, Germany) taking the 10 seed at the Alabama Tennis Center. The regional champions will receive automatic bids to the National Indoor Championships held on Nov. 2-5.
In Women’s A Singles, freshman Lauren Macfarlane (Ogden, Utah) will start the day at 8 a.m. against Miami’s Gina Sabatino. Senior Nicola Slater (Ayr, Scotland) takes the court at 10 a.m. in opposition to Alabama’s Sofia Ayala. Freshman Jessica Wente (Whitehouse, Texas) begins at 10:30 a.m. verses Mississippi State’s Renee Joseph. Walter will take the court on Thursday at noon verses North Florida’s Vanessa Sanchez.
In the Women’s B Singles, first seed sophomore Ania Rynarzewska (Inowroclaw, Poland) and fourth seed junior Tapiwa Marobela (Gaborone, Botswana) receives byes to the second round on Thursday. Sophomore Suzanna Mansour (Greenacres, Fla.) will face Bethune-Cookman’s Lucia Polakova at 1:30 p.m. Senior Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England) takes the court against UCF’s Becky Gordon at 11 a.m.
Women’s doubles begins on Friday with Macfarlane/Slater taking on Georgia Tech’s Flower/Rudman at 8 a.m. in Women’s A Doubles. Mansour/Rynarzewska faces Brenes/Muller of Alabama at 8 a.m. In Women’s B Doubles, Marobela/Wente is against North Florida’s Rogers/Sanchez at 8 a.m. Second seed Foley/Walter receive a bye to the second round.
