Florida State’s Andrew Bailey and Maciek Sykut Win SIC Doubles Title

ATHENS, Ga.–  Florida State freshmen Andrew Bailey and Maciek Sykut claimed the 2005 Southern Intercollegiate Championship doubles title in flight No. 2 Monday at the Dan Magil Tennis Complex after defeating Julien Lousao and Olivier Nussbaum of Southeastern Louisiana, 8-5.


In the semifinals round early Monday morning, Bailey/Sykut overpowered the College of Charleston’s Michael Reynolds and Tim Walter, 8-4, to advance to the championship match.


The Seminoles’ duo of sophomore Sam Chang and junior Jonathas Sucupira also faired well in doubles play over the weekend, advancing to the flight No. 1 semifinals draw Monday after defeating Strahinja Bobusic and Colin Purcell of the University of Georgia, 8-6.


Although they provided a tough showing, Chang/Sucupira came up short, 9-7, to Duke’s top doubles team of Jonathan Stokee and Joey Atas.
