GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State’s LaShaun Davis was named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week. She is the first Seminole of the 2005 season to earn the honor.
The sophomore right fielder slugged a team-high .750 in five games and led the No. 20 Florida State Seminoles to a 4-1 record last week. Davis batted a team-high .417 and raised her season batting average by almost 150 points. In 12 at bats, she had five hits, including a double and a home run, scored four runs and tallied four RBIs. The Marietta, Ga., native’s solo shot to centerfield against the Tar Heels was her first collegiate home run. She registered a team-best nine total bases and stole two bases during the week. In the first of a three-game series against North Carolina, Davis had the game-winning hit that plated two runs and gave Florida State the come-from-behind victory.
Davis and the Seminoles are back in action as they face NC State on Tuesday in Raleigh and then return home to host the FSU Invitational over the weekend.
