No. 6 seed Florida State (23-7) will face No. 11 seed Richmond (23-7) in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament on Sunday, March 20th at 9:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and can also be heard via the Internet on www.seminoles.com or locally on WFLA AM 1270. When FSU and Richmond meet in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament, the Seminoles will be making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2001 and just fifth overall in the program’s history. The Seminoles’ 23 wins marks FSU’s first 20-win season since 1990-91 and just fifth overall. FSU has utilizing a five-guard line up all season long. At 6-1, Ganiyat Adeduntan is the tallest member of the starting five. In fact, she is the only starter taller than 5-11. When FSU and Richmond meet on Sunday, it will be just the Seminoles’ third game in 29 days!
THE SERIES… Sunday will be the third meeting between the two schools and the second straight year the two clubs have met in the postseason. Richmond earned a 84-77 win at home over FSU last season in the second round of the WNIT. The first meeting was Dec. 29, 1993 when FSU beat Richmond 70-66 at the Florida Citrus Sports Holiday Classic in Orlando. Richmond will be FSU’s third Atlantic 10 opponent this season as the Tribe earned victories over Xavier and Fordham early in the season. Overall, FSU is 11-6 all-time vs. current Atlantic 10 opponents.
