Tallahassee, Fla. – Tony Richie, for the third consecutive year, is one of 32 catchers listed on the 2003 Johnny Bench Award Watch List. The award is given to the top National Collegiate Catcher. The junior is currently second among starters with a .344 batting average with four home runs, 28 RBI and a team leading 13 doubles. In addition, he also leads the team with four pickoffs. The watch list will be trimmed down to ten semi-finalists on May 20, 2003.
The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announces the official watch list for the 2003 Johnny Bench Award. The watch list is compiled from information based on the 2002 season and 2003 pre-season honors. Previous winners include, Jeremy Brown (2002) – University of Alabama, Kelly Shoppach (2001) – Baylor University and Brad Cresse (2000) – Louisiana State University.
Troy Carodonna of Duke and Mike Nickeas of Georgia Tech join Richie as ACC representatives on the watch list.
The Seminoles are currently on the road for a three-game series against NC State in Kinston, N.C. The games will be Friday (7:00), Saturday (1:30) and Sunday (12:00). FSU will next be at home on Wednesday, March 26th, at 3:30 as they play host to The Citadel.
