Florida State’s Tonya Carter Earns NCAA Automatic Qualifying Mark In 55-Meter Dash

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida State track and field team traveled
to Gainesville, FL this weekend to take part in the ACC-SEC Challenge. The
Seminoles earned 23 top 10 finishes including Senior Tonya Carter’s NCAA
Automatic Qualifying mark in the 55m dash.

Carter finished in first place and posted a personal season best
time of 6.77 in the 55m dash. The Lady Seminoles also posted NCAA
Provisional Qualifying times in three other events. Lakeisha Mose had an
impressive outing and earned an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark in the
weight throw. Mose garnered first place and set a personal season best with
a throw of 59’01.25. She also secured a third place finish in the shot put
with a mark of 47’03.75.

Chinette Johnson and Zuzette Mullings both earned NCAA Provisional
Qualifying times in the triple jump. The Lady Seminoles 4x400m relay team
had a strong meet finishing in third place and also earning an NCAA
Provisional Qualifying mark.

The Florida State men’s team secured eleven top 10 finishes this
weekend. The team was lead by Joshua Ware’s strong performance in the
5,000m run. Ware’s time of 15:37.23 was good enough to earn him a second
place finish. The men’s team also benefited from Maarten van den Hauvel’s
fifth place finish in the 800m run.

The Seminoles received strong performances from their relay teams
this weekend. The men’s distance medley team finished in second place with
a time of 10:22.26 and the men’s 4x400m relay team finished in eighth place
and posted a time of 3:20.11. The Seminoles also received a boost from Eric
Ritchson’s performance Sunday. Ritchson’s time of 4:24.01 in the mile run
was a personal season best and good enough to secure a ninth place finish.

Several other Lady Seminoles made key contributions in Gainesville
this weekend. Andrea Dulmage garnered a sixth place finish in the 5,000m
run and the women’s distance medley team finished in fifth place with a
time of 12:26.78. Three Lady Seminoles finished in the top 10 in the pole
vault. Lindsay Adkins finished second with a mark of 11’07.00, Bridgett
Allen’s mark of 11’03.00 was good enough to place her fourth and Elizabeth
Moye finished eighth with a mark of 10’05.25. Michaela Steele also
contributed with a fifth place finish in the high jump.

The Track and Field team will head back to Blacksburg, VA in two
weeks, February 18-19, for the ACC Indoor Championships.
