Florida State’s track and field teams have competed at just one meet this season and already one of its athletes is being praised. Sophomore Kim Williams (Kingston, Jamaica) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Track & Field Co-Performer of the Week along with Miami’s Murielle Ahoure.
Williams not only broke her own school record, but also set a new ACC record in the triple jump with her outstanding leap of 14.03m this weekend at the VT Hokie Invitational. The jump also gave Williams automatic qualification for the NCAA Championships.
“We’re so proud that Kim is a Seminole,” said Head Coach Bob Braman. “Her jump was incredible. She’s now getting very close to the NCAA record.”
Williams had an outstanding freshman campaign. The ACC Indoor and Outdoor Freshman of the Year, and ACC Outdoor Field Performer of the Year, Williams is a three-time ACC champion (indoor and outdoor triple jump and outdoor long jump). The two-time All-American was the 2008 NCAA East Regional Champion in the outdoor triple jump.
The Seminoles will be back in action this Saturday, January 24, as they travel to the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
