Florida State’s Wright Finishes Second; Seminoles Sixth At Ryder/Florida Golf Championships

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. –
Florida State senior Louise Wright tied her career high with a second place finish in the individual standings to propel the Seminole women’s golf team to a sixth place finish in the team standings at the Ryder/Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championships which concluded at Don Shula’s Golf Resort here Sunday. The University of Florida won the team championship while Michelle Simpson of Florida International won the individual title.


Wright (Ipswich, England) shot a career-best three-round score of 215 and tied her career-best finish of second place. She finished only one stroke behind Simpson as the two players matched each other over the final two days of the tournament. Wright and Simpson shot 69 in Saturday’s second round and 73 in Sunday’s third and final round. Simpson gained the edge on Friday as she fired an even-par 72 as compared to Wright’s one-over par 73.


Wright’s previous career low score was 218 at the Lady Seminole Classic in 1999. She tied her career-best finish of second that also came at the Bryan National Collegiate Championships in 2000.


Seminole sophomore Kristin Tamulis (Naples, Fla.) finished in a tie for 13th-place with an 11-over par score of 227. Her score of 227 was the third best of her career while her finish marked the marked the seventh time during her career (and second time in two events) that she had gained a top-15 individual finish.


Freshman Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) earned her top career finish and lowest career score with a 236 and an individual placement of tied for 38th. Sordel shot well in the first and third rounds of this weekend’s tournament with identical scores of five-over par 77. Alison Curdt (Ellisville, Mo.) finished in 40th place and junior Kelley Henderson (Marietta, Ga.) finished in a tie for 44th-place as the Seminoles placed all five golfers in the top 50 for the tournament.


The Seminoles have finished in the top 10 in their first two tournaments this spring. The team continues its schedule as its plays at the Bryan National Collegiate Tournament in Greensboro, N.C. with play in the three-round tournament beginning on Friday.
