April 7, 2001

BROWN SUMMIT, N.C. –
Florida State senior Louise Wright shot an even-par 72 and the Seminole women’s golf team totaled a stellar score of 299 in the second round of the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Champions Golf Club on Saturday. Wright’s even-par round allowed her to move into a tie for 17th place in the individual standings (up from a tie for 34th-place after round one) jumped the Seminoles into 11th place (up from a tie for 14th-place after round one) in the team standings.

Wright’s (Ipswich, England) even-par round of 72 gives her a six-over par 150 for the first two rounds. She has now shot 73 or better in four of eight rounds during the spring season. Wright begins play in round three on Sunday only nine strokes behind the current leaders, Candy Hannemann and Virada Nirapathpongporn. Hannemann and Nirapathpongporn, Duke teammates, have led the Blue Devils into first place in the team standings. Duke is the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.

All five of Florida State’s golfers bettered their scores in Saturday’s second round as compared to the first round on Friday. Sophomore Kristin Tamulis (Naples, Fla.) shot a four-over par 76 in round two (a three-stroke improvement from her score of 79 on Friday), sophomore Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) carded a five-over par 77 on Saturday (a five-stroke improvement), freshman Alison Curdt (Ellisville, Mo.) finished with a four-over par 76 in round two (a seven-stroke improvement) and junior Kelley Henderson (Marietta, Ga.) shot a Florida State career-best 75 (a twelve-stroke improvement).

As a team, Florida State realized a 23-stroke improvement from its round one score. The Seminoles shot a 299 in round two (the eighth lowest team score of the day) after finishing with a 322 on Friday. It was the team’s second best single round score of the spring season.

The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning with a shotgun start.
