Aug. 4, 1999

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The incoming freshmen class of the 1999
Florida State Football team took their physical tests and had their
first day of practice today. The newcomers completed the vertical jump,
bench press, jump rope and other tests in the morning before running the
40-yard dash and hitting the practice fields for the first time in the
afternoon where the coaches went through various drills.

Recording the top times in the 40 were RB Nick Maddox (4.5
seconds), QB Anquan Boldin (4.56) and DB Rufus Brown (4.57). FB Randy
Golightly had the top bench press (405 pounds) with LB Corey Collier
(365) and DL Alonzo Jackson (345) checking in next. Jackson had the top
vertical jump (36 inches) with Maddox right behind him at 35.5. Maddox
and Boldin had the best jump rope totals (one minute) at 97 and 89,
respectively.

“The guys that were supposed to be fast were fast,” said
strength coach Dave Van Halanger. “I do see a lot of great physical
potential with this group.”

The freshmen will practice twice on Thursday and the varsity
reports at 5:00 p.m. The first full practice will be Saturday as the
Seminoles will hold a morning and an afternoon session.
