TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Duke has moved its 1999 football game with Florida State to Alltel
Stadium in Jacksonville, Fl, the Gator Bowl Association announced Monday.
The game will be played on Saturday, October 2.
The game had been scheduled for the Duke campus, but the City of
Jacksonville, the Sports & Entertainment Board, the Tourist Development
Council and Spectacor Management Group have been working for a number of
years to host a Florida State game. The group had secured the Seminoles
for last year’s Pigskin Classic but could not find a team willing to play
FSU in Jacksonville. Florida State elected to play in the Kickoff Classic
against Texas A&M when an opponent could not be found.
Florida State, which already has six home games next year, will now
play eight of their regular season games within a 200-mile radius as
Gainesville is also within the same distance.
