Football Holds Night Practice

October 26, 1998

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 5 Florida State (7-1) held their regular one-hour
Monday practice tonight after reviewing film this afternoon. The team
worked on the kicking game, went over mistakes from the win over Georgia
Tech and began preparation for North Carolina.

“It was an ideal night to workout,” said head coach Bobby Bowden. “It
was cool and they were very spirited. For the first time we are on top of
the league and things are in our hands.”

The first Bowl Championship Series Poll was released tonight with Florida
State checking in at No. 5.

“I guess its as good as can be expected under the circumstances,” said
Bowden. “We still have four undefeated teams ahead. We put ourselves
behind the eight ball right off the bat. We just have to go out and win
ball games and let it take care of itself.”

Bowden also announced that tailback Travis Minor would likely return to
the starting lineup this Saturday. Jeff Chaney started against Georgia
Tech, but Minor saw significant playing time coming off an ankle injury.

“We will probably go with Minor at tailback and use Chaney behind him,”
said Bowden. “We will also give some carries to Laveranues Coles. When
teams get tired and you go in there with a fresh guy its a huge advantage.”

The Seminoles return to practice tomorrow afternoon. Saturday’s home
game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
