Florida State football coaches, players, athletic administrators, boosters and fans gathered at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center Friday afternoon to jumpstart the 2005 season at the 54th Annual Seminole Kickoff Luncheon, presented by Florida State University Alumni Association. Special guests included Tallahassee mayor John Marks, Florida State President T.K. Wetherell, head coach Bobby Bowden, and Athletics Director Dave Hart.
The thousands of people in attendance ate lunch with the players and coaches before Master of Ceremonies and “The Voice of the Seminoles”, Gene Deckerhoff, opened the ceremony. Alumni Board Chair David Mobley, Wetherell and Hart addressed the audience before the introduction of the coaches and players. Each athlete walked across the stage and had their name, position and hometown announced before the crowd.
Coach Bowden, who was the keynote speaker, then recognized the 2005 team captains. They are: Willie Reid and David Castillo (offense); Kamerion Wimbley and Kyler Hall (defense) and Sam McGrew (special teams). After introducing the captains, Bowden addressed the audience on topics ranging from team goals, scheduling, quarterbacks, offense, defense, and preseason practice.
