Football Returns to Practice

Sept. 7, 1998

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The No. 2 Florida State Seminoles returned to practice
from a weekend hiatus to start preparing for next Saturday’s matchup with
North Carolina State in Raleigh, N.C.

The squad practiced for 22 five-minute periods in shells (shorts,
shoulder pads, and helmets) after working on kickoff and kickoff return
teams. The team practiced 11-on-11 for 10 minutes in the middle of
practice. Safeties Shawn McCorkel and Sean Key both had interceptions
during 11-on-11.

“We had a Tuesday practice on Monday, so we’re a day ahead of the game,”
said head coach Bobby Bowden. “A bunch of them (players) are nicked up so
we’re being very careful.”

“NC State had a lot of yards against us last year which shows what
they’re capable of doing,” commented Bowden. “They won last week too, and
that builds their spirits. Their receiver, Torry Holt, would worry
anybody. He was all-conference last year and he’ll be a threat — no doubt
about it.”

Florida State will resume its normal practice schedule tomorrow with an
afternoon session.

INJURY REPORT: Cornerback Abdual Howard (compound dislocated left ring
finger); offensive tackle Donald Heaven (right knee); defensive tackle
Corey Simon (left ankle contusion); defensive end Roland Seymour (left
ankle and right groin).
