Athlon Sports named the Florida State football team the No. 5 team in the country in the publication’s preseason poll. Athlon also predicted that the Seminoles would win the 2005 ACC championship. The four teams voted ahead of Florida State will be released each day at www.athlonsports.com. Four FSU opponents made the top 25 with Miami 11th, Florida 13th, Boston College 17th and Virginia 22nd.

Cornerback Antonio Cromartie, tailback Leon Washington, linebacker Ernie Sims and safety Pat Watkins were voted All-ACC first team according to the magazine. Cromartie was a second team All-American while Washington checked in as a third team All-American. In the unit rankings, Florida State’s running backs were named the best in the league. The incoming freshmen class was recognized as the ACC’s No. 1 group while wide receiver Fred Rouse of Tallahassee’s Lincoln High School was listed as the conference’s top incoming freshman.

The magazine, which features Washington on the ACC regional edition cover, will hit newsstands on June 7.
