Football Team is Forced to Move Practice

Sept. 21, 1998

TALLAHASSEE, FL — The No. 10 Florida State Seminoles were forced to
practice inside due to inclement weather tonight.

“We had the punt team work out in the gym to correct mistakes from last
week and then split into offense and defense to start putting in the game
plan for USC,” said head coach Bobby Bowden.

The squad practiced in shorts for 90 minutes in two indoor gyms in the
Moore Athletic Center due to wet practice fields.

INJURY REPORT: QB Chris Weinke, C Eric Thomas, OG Donald Heaven, OG
Justin Amman, OG Jerry Carmichael and OT Ross Brannon are suffering from an
intestinal virus. All but Brannon were home tonight. LB Bradley Jennings
was held out with a left ankle sprain.

Offensive guard Jerry Carmichael and linebacker Lamont
Green were chosen Atlantic Coast Conference offensive and defensive lineman
of the week, respectively, by a select panel of the league’s media members.

Carmichael, a sophomore from Plantation, Fla., was the only unanimous
choice this week. He helped the Seminole offense to their best outing of
the season in the 62-13 victory over Duke as he did not allow a quarterback
sack or pressure. Carmichael also contributed five cut blocks, four
intimidations and graded out at 90 percent all while playing with a
sprained ankle.

Green led all Florida State defenders with 14 tackles, including 10 solo
stops, against Duke’s league-leading offense. The senior from Miami, Fla.,
also shared in a sack, had an intimidation, one and half third down stops
and a pair of knock ’em backs as the FSU defense held Duke to just 165
yards of total offense.
