Former `Nole Sykut Wins Fifth Doubles Title

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( – Former Seminole Maciek Sykut is in the midst of his best professional year of tennis. He and doubles partner Dennis Zivkovic (USA) won the Mexico Future No. 8 in Guadalajara, Mexico in early November. They defeated Ranier Eitzinger (AUT) and Alex Satschko (GER) 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3), 10-7 to mark his fifth Futures doubles title of the year. He is currently ranked No. 279 in the current ATP doubles ranking.

“I’m really pleased to have won my fifth title of the year last week,” said Sykut. “It was probably the most satisfying of the five, having been down four consecutive match points against a very good team. It will bring me one step closer to a top 250 doubles ranking and hopefully allow me to compete at some bigger events in 2011.”

In late October he took the doubles title with Peter Aarts (USA) when they defeated Wilson Leite (BRA) and Caio Silva (BRA) 6-4, 6-3 at the Venezuela Future No. 6. The third title of the season came at the Venezuela Future No. 4 where he and Greg Ouellette (USA) won 6-2, 6-4 against Ramon Gonzalez (ESP) and Alexandre Schnitman (BRA) 6-2, 6-4.

At the Columbia Future No. 1, he and Mauricio Echazu (PER) won the doubles title after topping Daniel Garza (MEX) and Dennis Zivkovic (USA) 3-6, 6-3, 10-8. At the Columbia Future No. 3, Sykut and Zivkovic won in a walkover to take the doubles title. He has made it to 11 doubles finals this year.

In singles play Sykut is currently ranked No. 620. He reached the finals of the Ecuador Future No. 2. He has reached the semifinals and quarterfinals each twice.

At Florida State, Sykut is ranked second in all-time career overall wins with 175. In overall singles career wins, Sykut ranks second with 93 and is third for career doubles wins with 82. In his senior year, he and Drew Bailey posted 23 doubles wins to tie for eighth in single season wins. He is tied for seventh in single season singles win with 26 victories in 2009.
