SEATTLE- A pair of former Florida State women’s basketball stars will go head-to-head in a WNBA preseason game this Friday when the Tulsa Shock travels to Seattle to face the Storm at 7 p.m. at KeyArena.
Former Florida State All-America center Cierra Bravard (2008-12) was invited to the Seattle Storm’s 2013 training camp earlier this spring and is battling for a roster spot.
Bravard scored four points on 2-of-2 shooting in 13 minutes of action in the Storm’s preseason-opening 67-66 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday.
Bravard will face another FSU alum, Roneeka Hodges, who starred for the Noles in 2004-05, and will enter her ninth season in the WNBA. Hodges is slated to start at guard for the Shock after averaging 10.2 points per game for the squad following a trade from the Indiana Fever midway through last season.
Bravard, who spent training camp with the San Antonio SilverStars in 2012, averaged 8.6 points and 4.3 boards while shooting 52 percent from the floor last season for Spain’s Uni Girona team. Bravard was a three-time All-ACC pick and an honorable mention All-American at FSU in 2011.
Hodges, who has appeared in 230 WNBA games with 85 starts, was an All-ACC First Team pick for the Garnet and Gold in 2005 after averaging 19.2 points. Hodges holds the FSU record for points in a game with 39 against Maryland in 2005.
She has also been a star overseas, most recently averaging 13.0 points for Americana in Brazil and appearing in four games for the Spanish club Perfumerias in the Euroleague in 2013.
Another former Nole star Jacinta Monroe (2006-10) also stars in Spain, playing alongside Bravard for Uni Girona, she averaged team-bests in scoring (14.2), rebounds (9.0) and blocks (1.0) in 2012-13.
