TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Okaro White, who helped lead the Florida State basketball team to the 2012 ACC Championship, has his chance to win a world championship as the Cleveland Cavaliers begin their playoff run on Sunday against the Indiana Pacers. The best of seven-game series between the Eastern Conference rivals begins in Cleveland’s Gund Arena Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
White originally signed a 10-day contract with Cleveland on March 18. The Cavaliers signed him for the remainder of the season and added him to their playoff roster on April 7.
“I’m blessed for the opportunity the Cavs have given me,” said White. “The trust the organization has had in me for my development and potential moving forward has been great. From day one the staff has been working with me to get me back to my highest playing level. I thank the Miami Heat for everything they’ve done for my development in my career. I’m looking forward to getting more and more familiar with this championship organization and continuing to be a part of something great.”
White went undrafted following his four-year career at Florida State, and played overseas (in Italy and Greece) before landing with the Heat. He averaged 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in two seasons with the Heat but was limited to six games during the 2017-18 season because of a broken foot.
Before signing with the Heat, White was a D-League All-Star with the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He was vital to Sioux Falls’ thirteen-game win streak during the 2016-17 season.
White is one of 47 former ACC players listed on one of the 16 teams who begin play in the NBA Playoffs this weekend. The ACC is represented on all 16 NBA Playoff teams, whose rosters feature players from 13 of the ACC’s 15-member schools.
