Four Named To All-ACC Academic Women’s Basketball Team

July 6, 2006

The 2006 All-ACC Academic Women’s Basketball Team was announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford and Florida State was well-represented with four recipients – more than any other league school. Ganiyat Adeduntan, Alicia Gladden, Holly Johnson and LaQuinta Neely were recognized for their academic accomplishments. The foursome also helped the Seminoles to back-to-back 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament second round appearances.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

For Adeduntan, it was the Athens, Ga., native’s third such honor of her career. In 2005-06, Adeduntan, who ranked second on the team in scoring (12.1) and rebounding (5.2) became just the 19th player in FSU women’s basketball history to join the 1,000-point club.

Johnson received the award for the second straight season. The Phoenix, Ariz., native ranked third on the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game and was the team leader with 106 assists.

Neely and Gladden were first time honorees. One of four team captains, Neely, who hails from Laurens, S.C., was a defensive force for the Seminoles and averaged 5.2 points and was second on the team with 96 assists.

Gladden, an Orange Park, Fla., native, earned third team All-ACC honors in 2005-06 and was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team for the second straight season. She led the team in scoring at 13.1 points and rebounding at 6.4 rebounds per game.
