TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) –
Led by three-time All-ACC Academic team honoree Hannah Thomson, a total of four Seminole golfers were named to the 2012 All-ACC Academic Men’s and Women’s golf teams as announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. It marks the second consecutive season that four Seminole golfers have been honored for their academic and athletic successes by the ACC.
Thomson (Perth, Australia) served as one of Florida State’s team captains and earned her bachelor’s degree in sport management as a senior. She concluded her career as one of only eight golfers in school history to play in in four ACC Championship and four NCAA Regional Championships and earned her only career individual championship at the spring 2011 Lady Gator Invitational.
Thomason was joined by senior All-American Maria Salinas (international affairs) and freshman Laure Castelain (business) on the All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf Team. Salinas (Lima, Peru) earned All-American Third Team and All-ACC honors as a senior in 2012. Castelain (Bordeaux, France), who finished in second place on the team with a 75.74 stroke average, was one of two freshmen named to All-ACC Women’s golf team.
Junior Doug Letson, who earned three top 10 finishes during his third season as a Seminole, was named to the All-ACC Academic men’s golf team for the first time in his career. He helped the Seminoles to a third place finish in the 2012 ACC Championship and to a tied for third place finish in the 2012 NCAA Southwest Regional. Letson was also in the starting line-up as Florida State won the team title at the FAU Spring Break Invitational and finished in fifth place in the team standings at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
