Freeman Earns Preseason First Team Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( – Florida State indoor volleyball middle blocker Sareea Freeman has been selected as an all-preseason first team selection by COBRA Magazine heading into her senior season.

Freeman, a Fresno, Calif., native, is coming off her best year as a Seminole as she teamed with fellow middle blocker Ashley Neff to form one of the top front lines in the nation. Freeman finished 37th nationally in 2011 with 1.25 blocks per set and tallied 156 blocks overall.

This season, Freeman and Neff are back again for the Seminoles, who also welcome two highly-touted freshmen middles in Sarah Burrington and Mara Green. Senior Marija Milosavljevic, who could play right-side hitter or middle blocker, rounds out a group that could be one of the top middle-blocking teams in the nation.

Freeman played a vital role in helping the Seminoles to their first-ever NCAA Final Four last season. At the Minneapolis Regional against fifth-seeded Purdue and fourth-seeded Iowa State, she recorded 19 blocks combined and picked up her second career double-double versus the Cyclones in the Elite Eight.

As a result of her strong junior campaign, Freeman was honored as a third-team All-American and an All-Atlantic South Region Team member by COBRA. Playing with a group of prolific hitters, Freeman was first among the middle blockers with 225 kills and 1.80 kills per set.

Over the summer, Freeman joined teammate Sarah Wickstrom at the competitive U.S. Women’s National Volleyball A2 Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. Both players helped the USA Blue squad finish with a 4-1 overall record, excelling against some of the nation’s top intercollegiate players.

COBRA is a magazine that features African American, Samoan, Tongan and Afro-Caribbean volleyball players in hopes of inspiring younger players from those ethnic groups to play volleyball and become successful women on and off the court.
