Freshman Beaty Leads Seminole Men’s Golf Team At Mason Rudolph Championship

Sept. 17, 2001

FRANKLIN, Tenn. –
Freshman Eric Beaty shot two superb rounds of 69 and 71 and is in a tie for 13th-place in the individual standings at the Mason Rudolph Collegiate Men’s Golf Championship at the Legends Club heading into Tuesday’s third and final round. Beaty led a pair of Seminole golfers who are currently in the top-20 of the individual standings as Florida State sits in 10th-place in the team standings.

Beaty begins third round play within striking distance of Mississippi State’s Codie Mudd who is the individual. Beaty, a Germantown, Tenn., native carded a one-under par 69 in the first round and finished the second round with a one-over par 71 on the par-70 Roper’s Knob Course. Beaty has now shot three of his first five collegiate rounds at 72 or below.

Sophomore Brad Lusenhop continued his stellar play with a one-under par 69 in round one and a two-over par 72 in the second round. His score of 69 is his career-low and is the second time in his last five rounds he has shot 70 or below. With a one-over par 141 two-day total, Lusenhop (Gloversville, N.Y.) is only 10 strokes off the pace set by Mississippi State’s Codie Mudd.

Mudd was spectacular on the day as he carded scores of 64 and 67 to finish with a nine-under par score of 131. His first round score of 64 was the best of the 63 golfers competing in the event.

Play concludes Tuesday in the 54-hole event. Florida State, which shot a season’s best 289 team score in round one, is well within reach of moving up in the team standings.
