April 16, 2005

NEW LONDON, N.C. –
Freshman Song Jeon led Florida State with a one-over par 73 to move into a tie for eighth place in the individual standings and the Florida State men’s golf team moved into sixth place in team standings after the second round of the 52nd annual Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point. Jeon begins play in Sunday’s final round looking to become the first Seminole to finish among the top 10 in the conference championship since George McNeil finish in a tie for eighth place in 1997.

Georgia Tech, ranked No. 3 nationally, and Duke, ranked, No. 9 nationally, are tie for first in the team standings with identical team scores of 583 after the first two rounds. The Yellow Jackets played one stoke better (290-291) than the Blue Devils during Saturday’s second round to pull even with the Blue Devils. Duke’s Ryan Blaum continued to hold the individual lead and owns a four-shot lead over Roberto Castro of Georgia Tech. Blaum carded a one-under par 71 in the second round.

Jeon (Seoul, Korea) carded a team-low one over par 73 and has a two-round total of 147. He is only two strokes from moving into the top five in the individual standings. The best finish by a Seminole in the ACC Championship is second by three different players — most recently by George McNeil in 1996. Jeon has now carded nine rounds with scores at 75 or better.

Freshman Jonas Blixt (Nassjo, Sweden) and sophomore Torstein Nevestad (Oslo, Norway) carded identical scores of 76 and are tied for 16th and tied for 28th respectively. Blixt has a two day total of 150 and Nevestad a 36-hole total of 154.

Senior Rusty Mosley (Vidalia, Ga.) kept his standing in the top-30 of the individual standings with a two-round total of 153. He carded an even par 72 in the Friday’s first round and is in 27th place entering the third round. Sophomore Bradley Ruch (Louisville, Ky.) is in a tie for 43rd place with a 161 total for the first 36 holes.

The Tournament concludes Sunday with a final round of 18 holes beginning at 8 a.m.
