TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Preparing for the 41st meeting of the intra-state rivalry, No. 8 Florida State (39-8) and No. 5 Florida (41-7) will face off 6:00 p.m. on April 25 in Gainesville, Fla., for the final game between the two schools as part of the 2018 Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown.

The Seminoles enter Wednesday’s contest having won each of their last two games against Florida and have won three of the last nine games overall against the Gators.

Florida State moved up to No. 5 in this week’s NCAA Softball RPI and currently have the No. 1-ranked non-conference strength of schedule in the nation.

“It is an amazing atmosphere down there,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “The Florida State-Florida rivalry has been something that has grown in the softball arena as well, and that has been neat to see. This is definitely a measuring stick for us and it will have a postseason feel. Couldn’t be at a better time for us. Just excited about every chance and every pitch we get to see tomorrow.”

Carsyn Gordon enters the game on a 26-game streak of reaching base, dating back to March 8. She leads the team with 23 walks and 27 runs scored over that span and has added eight doubles, three triples, three home runs and 20 RBI.

Kylee Hanson (0.90) and Meghan King (1.01) both rank in the top 20 in the nation in ERA, as the Seminoles are 10th in the NCAA with a 1.35 ERA.

The last time the Seminoles beat Florida in Gainesville was on April 2, 2014 in a 3-2 win in eight innings. Maddie O’Brien drove in the game-winning run and Lacey Waldrop struck out nine in the complete-game victory.

FSU has won 25 of its last 27 games overall and has won each of the last four games against ranked teams. Overall, the Seminoles are 8-3 on the season against teams ranked in the NFCA Top 25.

Wednesday’s game will be broadcast on SEC Network+. Tickets are on sale at www.floridagators.com and broadcast links for TV and FSU Softball Radio, along with live stats, will be available on the softball schedule page of Seminoles.com.
