The Florida State women’s basketball team practiced for 90 minutes Sunday afternoon following its press conference in preparation for Monday’s 9:30 p.m. meeting with No. 14-ranked Stanford, a third-seed. On Saturday, Seminole senior Holly Johnson had a career night with a career-high 25 points to lead the Seminoles to an 80-71 win over Louisiana Tech in NCAA Tournament first round action. With the win over Louisiana Tech, Florida State has made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in its last four appearances and for the second consecutive season. The Seminoles advanced to the second round during the 1991, 2001, 2005 and 2006 campaigns but have never gone further. This win marked the first time the Seminoles have defeated Louisiana Tech. Florida State had faced the Lady Techsters just twice before and were 0-2 in its previous meetings.

FSU is 1-0 vs. Stanford with a 73-58 win back on January 3, 1983 in a neutral site game. No. 14 Stanford will be the seventh ranked opponent FSU has played this season and the Tribe is 3-3 in the previous six games.

Stanford will be FSU’s second Pac 10 opponent this season as the Seminoles fell 71-69 to Washington in Tallahassee in the second game of the season. When FSU hosted the Washington Huskies on November 20th, it was the first time the Tribe had faced a Pac 10 team since 1992. Overall, the Seminoles are 1-4 in the previous five meetings vs. Pac-10 teams and have never played two Pac-10 teams in the same season before.

FSU and Stanford have two common opponents this season in Washington and Boston College. FSU went 0-1 vs. UW and 1-0 vs. BC. Stanford went 1-1 vs. UW and 0-1 vs. BC. In the NCAA RPI rankings, FSU is rated 30th while Stanford is 19th. In the regular season, FSU went 5-8 vs. the NCAA’s Top 50 RPI-rated teams while Stanford went 6-6.
