Tallahassee, FL – The Atlantic Coast Conference released its inaugural All-ACC Academic baseball team Thursday and Florida State placed six players on the squad, the second-most of any school. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
FSU’s six All-ACC Academic honorees were just one behind conference leader Clemson for the most from any school. All six Seminoles that were named to the team are expected to be back in Garnet & Gold in 2007. Three of the honorees were pitchers and all six were starters for Florida State in 2006.
Bryan Henry, Michael Hyde and closer Luke Tucker are all juniors were all named to the inaugural squad. Ryan Strauss, Buster Posey and Jack Rye also joined the three hurlers on the team. Posey was one of only four freshmen on the 43-member team. Henry was the only Seminole to earn All-ACC and All-ACC Academic team honors. He is one of only two players in the entire conference to receive All-ACC Academic honors and be named a first team All-ACC selection. The other player to accomplish that feat was Clemson’s Josh Cribb.
