The Seminoles’ last loss in regional play dates back to the opening game of the 2008 Tallahassee Regional as Bucknell defeated FSU 7-0.
FSU is making its 35th consecutive trip to the NCAA Regional, the second longest active streak in the nation behind only Miami. Overall, this is Florida State’s 50th NCAA Regional, which is the second-most appearances all-time. The Seminoles and Longhorns are the only two schools to make 45 or more tournament appearances.
The Seminoles are 167-111 all-time in NCAA Tournament play, a record that includes 20 trips to the College World Series.
Florida State enters the 2012 NCAA Tournament as a top eight national seed for the eighth time since 1999. The Seminoles earned the No. 3 national seed this year for the first time in school history. FSU has advanced to the CWS as a national seed in 1999 (#2), 2000 (#6) and 2008 (#4).

Florida State is 38-11 all-time in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. FSU defeated Bethune-Cookman 6-5 in the opening round game in 2011. The Seminoles have won their last three regional openers. Under head coach Mike Martin, FSU is 28-4 in the opening game of a regional. Prior to Martin’s arrival, the Seminoles were 10-7.
UAB enters the Tallahassee Regional winners of the Conference USA Tournament for the first time in school history. The Blazers are making just their second NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 1991 when UAB went 1-2.
In the first and only meeting between these two schools back in 1988, FSU ran out to a 6-0 lead en route to a 10-4 victory in Tallahassee. Clyde Keller and Brad Parker paced the Seminoles with three hits apiece, while Edwin Alicea collected two hits and scored twice in the win.
FSU is 2-0 against C-USA opponents in 2012 having swept UCF in a two-game mid-week series in Orlando. The Blazers went 2-2 against the Knights this year.
