TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s tennis team completed the second day of action at the Southern Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Georgia. Following a day I which the Noles notched 10 wins, FSU earned another six wins.
In third-round singles, Xavier Luscan came out strong to defeat Vince Baudat of Southern Alabama, 6-3, ret. The Noles followed that with a loss by Romain Jurd in straight sets before FSU recovered with a Division II (Round of 16) win by Alex Herrera. Herrera knocked out Stetson’s Aleksander Antonijevic, 6-3, 3-6, 6-5 (4).
In Division III action, the Noles split with Bryan Fisher of LSU dropping Jeff Scarella (6-4, 6-4) which was followed by a three-set win by Jarrod Owen over Aman Gill of Troy State. The Noles took two more wins in Division IV quarterfinals and fourth-round singles division quarterfinals. Luscan notched another victory in the fourth-round singles quarters with a three-set win over Georgia’s Brandon Wagner after falling behind with a loss in the opening set. (3-6, 6-4, 6-3). Joe Basset took home the win in a three-set win over Matt Armstrong (Miss. State) in the DIV quarters. Alex Herra beat Max Fomine of Mississippi State (6-1, 6-3) in the DII quarterfinals.
In doubles action, FSU lossed its only match of the day, as Luscan and Herrera combined to fall 8-6 to LSU’s Smatt and Ramaswami.
Action will continue on Oct. 1-2, as the tournament will end on Monday afternoon.
