FSU Completes Final Day At Seminole Invitational

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State track and field team completed the final day of the Seminole Invitational on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at the Mike Long Track and Field Complex. Five regional qualifying marks were posted including two new names on the list – Courtney Wright and Tom Lancashire.

Senior Olympian Kimberly Walker (Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago/Polytechnic) bettered her regional qualifying mark and won the 100m with a career-best 11.68. Junior Evelyne Cynthia Niako (Stone Mountain, Ga./Stephenson) was third in her collegiate debut in the 100m with a time of 11.88.

Senior Courtney Wright (Bartonsville, Ill./Limestone Community) jumped a season-best and regional qualifying distance of 24’4.5″ (7.43m). Redshirt freshman Travis Dane (Naples, Fla./Barron-Collier) won the hammer throw with a mark 162’6″ (49.52m).

Senior Sharneka Brown (St. Petersburg, Fla./Florida A&M) won the triple jump event, posting a distance of 39’00.25″ (11.89m). Freshman Kirsten Hagen (Blacksburg, Va./Christiansburg) won the 3000m event in a career-best 9:59.97. Freshman Cristen Litz (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota) ran a 10:39.79 clip to cross the line in third-place in the 3K event.

Junior LaKendra McColumn (Lithonia, Ga./Southwest Dekalb) secured a place at regionals with a 58.97 400m hurdles time. She also took .12 seconds off her regional qualifying 100m hurdles time, with a second-place 13.81 performance in the event. Fellow junior Deanna Lane (Marietta, Ga./Pope) posted a career-best regional qualifying time of 13.83 in her third-place performance.

Sophomore Tom Lancashire (Bolton, England/Turton) bested the 2005 NCAA Indoor 800m Champion Kevin Hicks by .81 seconds in regionally qualifying for the event in 1:48.30. Redshirt freshman Tommy Noyes (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) was a close third, bettering his career-best time with a 1:50.65 mark.

Senior captain Ian Hornabrook (Southport, Australia/Rend Lake) and sophomore Chris Nickinson (Pensacola, Fla./Washington) finished one-two in the 1500m, posting times of 3:46.66 and 3:50.88. Hornabrook’s time was his second regional qualifying mark in the event and third overall.

Newcomer Hubert Mitchell ran a Seminole season-best 47.71 in the 400m dash in taking fourth place in the event. Senior Joscelyn Worrell (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) ran a career-best, second-place 400m hurdles time of 14.64.

Sophomore Eric Critzer (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) ran a season-best time of 3000m steeplechase in 9:15.55.

Sophomore Dana Massiah (Trinidad & Tobago/Bishop Aenesty) took second in the 400m dash in a season best time of 55.85. Classmate Devon Rich (Seminole, Fla./USF) was third in 56.81.

Senior Sydney Mondragon (Pueblo, Col./South) finished in 2:16.17 in the 800m dash, good for second-place. Freshman Audrey Hand (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) was right behind her in third with a mark of 2:2.98. Hand ran 4:48.52 in the 1500m for her second third-place finish of the day.

Freshman Leilani Caraballo (Miami, Fla./Lourdes Academy) vaulted 10’6″ (3.20m) in the pole vault for third place. Sophomore Charlene Walker (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) jumped a season-best 19’00.75″ (5.81m) for second place in the long jump.
