The Florida State men’s cross country team placed first at the Mountaineer Open hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, NC on Friday, August 29, 2003. The women’s team earned 44 points to place second in the first cross country meet of the 2003 season.
The Seminole men posted 37 points to take first place. FSU was led by junior Kevin Cook who finished third at the Mountaineer Open with a time of 15:37. Senior transfer Eduardo Rodriguez finished one second behind FSU teammate Cook with a 15:38 finish time. Junior Joep Tigehelaar finished in the top ten with a seventh place finish and a time of 15:43. Freshman Tom Lancashire (15:55) and junior Ian Hornabrook (15:56) rounded out the top five scorers for the Seminoles with eleventh and twelfth place finishes, respectively.
The Florida State women recorded 44 points en route to a second place finish. Junior Natalie Hughes finished fifth with a time of 18:27. Fellow junior Anne Clinton followed with a seventh place finish and 18:35 time and senior Helen Hofstede rounded out the group with a time of 18:42 for eighth place. Freshman Heather Clark and redshirt sophomore Rachel Marsh posted times of 19:36 and 19:41 for sixteenth and eighteenth place, respectively.
The Seminoles return to action at the Florida Intercollegiate Championships in Tallahassee, FL on Sept 12, 2003.
