The Florida State Cross Country teams are heading to Tampa, Fla., today to compete in the Florida Intercollegiate Championships. With the recent release of regional rankings, the No. 2-ranked Lady Noles (in the South Region) are sure to be pumped for the race set to take place Friday at 5:00 p.m.
“This race will be the final chance for both teams to prepare for the ACC’s and their final chance at improving their personal best times,” said head coach Bob Braman. “This is a very fast course, with a lot of good individuals set to run, including those who are unattached.”
Freshman Amy Plekaitis should once again set the pace for the Lady Noles, as she has consistently done so far this season. Her goal will be to break her personal best time of 17:35 and possibly enter into the women’s top 10 times. Along with Plekaitis will be junior Brooke Bastien who has stayed neck in neck with the young Plekaitis. With the emergence of these athletes the Lady Noles should add some pressure to the other teams.
Sophomores Nick Stuart and Ryan Hicks still look to lead the Seminoles as the two have done all season. Stuart and Ryan have excelled early in the season, gaining solid experience. The Seminoles are currently ranked eighth in the south region, this currently ties them with the highest ranking ever held for the men’s cross country.
The race is set to take place Friday evening at 5:00.
