AUBURN, Ala. –
The Florida State diving team qualified two divers for the NCAA Championships following competition this past weekend at the NCAA Zone Qualifier meet held in Auburn, Ala. Sophomore Tiffany Manning will represent the women’s diving team and fellow sophomore Louie Gagnet will represent the men’s diving team at the 2003 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The women’s meet will take place March 20-22 in Auburn, while the men’s meet will be held in Austin, Texas on March 27-29.
Manning’s performance on the platform was good enough to qualify her for her second NCAA appearance. Last season, Manning earned All-America honors following a seventh-place finish on the platform and was later named the ACC Freshman of the Year. Earlier this year, Manning earned All-ACC honors on both springboard events after placing second on each at the conference meet. She will join juniors Emma Dutton, Andree-Anne LeRoy and Loren Hansen and sophomores Emily Breen and Jennie Lyes, who all qualified in swimming events, at the NCAA Championships.
Gagnet, a two-time ACC Most Valuable Diver and four-time ACC champion, qualified for his second NCAA appearance following a strong performance on the three-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone Qualifier. At last season’s NCAA meet, Gagnet just missed All-America honors with a 17th-place finish on the platform and an18th-place finish in the three-meter. Gagnet is currently the FSU record holder on the three-meter.
In total, FSU had sx divers competing this weekend with the addition of junior Chelsie Lerew, sophomores Courtney McClow and Sam Hood and freshman Pete Crane. Each diver had to qualify for the NCAA Zone meet by reaching a specific score on either the one- or three-meter boards during the regular season.
