TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State put the finishing touches on the 2013 fall baseball season Monday afternoon on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium with a 20-4 victory over the Ontario Blue Jays.

Josh Delph paced the Florida State offense with three hits, all singles, in the win as the junior right fielder was one of four Seminoles to record multiple hits on Monday. Delph finished with three runs scored and two RBI.

Brett Knief went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs, two RBI and a walk, while freshmen Hank Truluck and Gage West finished with two hits each. West drove in a game-high three runs, all coming on a bases clearing triple which highlighted FSU’s nine-run third inning to break the game open. Truluck connected on an RBI single in his first at-bat in the fourth and followed with an RBI double down the line in left in the ninth.

Justin Gonzalez doubled in his first at-bat of the afternoon to leadoff the second as he came within inches of clearing the fence in right center. He would later score in the inning on Knief’s first run scoring hit.

Nick Graganella, John Nogowski, Derek Fritz and Casey Smit each registered a hit in the win.

On the mound, eight different pitchers saw action with Peter Miller picking up the win. The senior right hander was impressive in his two perfect innings of work striking out five of the six batters that he faced.

Luke Weaver, Taylor Blatch, M.T. Minacci, Gage Smith, Alec Byrd, Brandon Johnson and Billy Strode all recorded an inning of work.

Blatch, Byrd, Johnson and Strode each threw a perfect inning in relief. Byrd struck out two, while Johnson struck out all three batters that he faced. Strode worked the ninth and recorded three groundball outs to second.

Weaver, who started Monday’s scrimmage, worked an inning and allowed one hit, a walk and an unearned run while striking out two.

Overall, Florida State pitchers combined to register 14 strikeouts while issuing just two walks.

With the fall season now complete, Florida State will return to the diamond on Friday, February 14 when the Seminoles open the 2014 campaign with a three-game series at home against Niagara.
