TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Women’s Soccer team opened its spring exhibition season against USF on Sunday afternoon inside the Seminole Soccer Complex.
The two schools played three 30 minute segments with the Seminoles winning the first two segments by identical scores of 2-0. The final 30 minutes of Sunday’s exhibition finished in a 0-0 tie.
Florida State opened the scoring in the fifth minute as Bakowska-Mathews found the back of the net following a Seminole corner kick for her first goal of the afternoon. Schmid and Carson Pickett were credited with an assist on the goal.
The Seminoles extended their lead to 2-0 just three minutes later when sophomore transfer Cheyna Williams scored off a pass from Bakowska-Mathews.
In the second segment, Kristin Grubka put the Noles up early converting on a corner kick sent into the box from Schmid.
With just over eight minutes left in the second segment, Bakowska-Mathews gave the Seminoles a two-goal lead putting away a cross from Hikaru Murakami that just beat the USF keeper.
Both teams settled for a scoreless draw in the final 30 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper and Tallahassee native Caroline Brockmeier kept the Bulls off the scoreboard with two minutes left in regulation making a big save on a 1-v-1 opportunity for USF.
