Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 29 Florida State women’s tennis team (9-6, 4-2) picked up where they left off on the scoreboard against No. 25 Wake Forest but looked like a different team in the 4-3 loss to the Demon Deacons. The Seminoles, who resumed play after rain forced FSU to postpone Sunday’s match until Monday, posted wins at the number one and five positions in singles after taking the doubles point.

Senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) won at the top of the lineup, beating #66 Ashlee Davis, 6-1, 6-3. Moldovan was down 2-3 in the second set before running off four games to point the second team point on the board.

Freshman Tapiwa Marobela (Garborone, Botswana/Clapham) also picked up a win, outlasting Jenna Loeb in the tiebreaker 10-8 for a final tally of 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.

On Sunday, FSU took the doubles point from the visiting Deacons, taking matches at the one and three positions. Moldovan and junior Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, Fla./Boca Raton Prep) won at the number one position, beating Davis and Katie Martzolf, 8-3.

At the number two position, sophomore co-captain Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) and senior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, Calif./Futures) lost at the to #15 Alex Hirsch and Karin Coetzee to even the score at one match per team.

Junior co-captain Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England/Houston) and Marobela clinched the doubles point with a win at the number three position. The pair beat Blakely Offutt and Danielle Schwartz 8-4.

The Seminoles will play at North Carolina on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and then on Sunday at Duke at 12:00 p.m.
