Game Summaries:


Garnet vs. Gold Game #1


The Florida State softball team kicked off its fall season with the first of five Garnet vs. Gold games last weekend. The Gold team struck first in the series by winning the game 7-4.


Leading the way offensively for the Gold squad was Courtney Rosen, who finished the day going 3-for-4 while adding a stolen base. Allison Collins also had a good day at the plate by notching two hits, a RBI and two runs scored.


In the circle for the Gold team, juniors Sarah Hamilton and Lauren Varsalona managed to scatter six hits while striking out four batters. For the Garnet team, senior pitcher Terese Gober led the way as she struck out six batters and only give up two hits in three innings of work.


Offensively, freshman utility player Morgan Bullock led the way, hitting 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs. She also pitched two innings in relief. Carly Wynn, Ashley Stager, Kristie McConn each added a hit for the Garnet team.


The series will get back resume this Friday, Oct. 16 when the Garnet and Gold team square off for the second time this fall.



FSU vs. Gulf Coast Community College


Last Friday, the ’Noles welcomed Gulf Coast Community College to Tallahassee for fall ball competition.


The Florida State pitching staff gave up only one run on six hits while striking out 10 against Florida Gulf Coast Community College. The freshmen combo of Morgan Bullock and Dale Townsend pitched the final four innings for the Seminoles as both looked solid in their first game.


Pacing the FSU offense was freshman Tiffani Brown and senior transfer Tori Haddad. Brown went a perfect 3—for-3 with three singles and also added an RBI while Haddad was 1-for-2 on the day with a double and an RBI.


Jen Lapicki, Carly Wynn, Shayla Jackson, Bullock, Monica Montez, and Robin Ahrberg also added one hit a piece for Florida State.


Following Friday’s second Garnet vs. Gold game, FSU will travel to Pensacola for two more games of fall ball action.
