ATHENS, Ga. (seminoles.com) – The Florida State women’s soccer team opened the 2012 spring season on Saturday falling at Georgia 1-0. Playing in windy conditions throughout the game, the Seminoles controlled possession for a majority of the match but could not find the back of the net in suffering the loss.

The Bulldogs scored the lone goal of the match 28 minutes into the second half off a free kick from the top of the box. Alexa Newfield, UGA’s leading scorer in 2011, fired her chance off the left post, evading Florida State’s wall and bouncing into the back of the net to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.

Florida State’s first scoring opportunity came in the 14th minute when a cross from the left side missed just wide of the goal.

Four minutes into the second half, the Seminoles missed a golden opportunity to score off a corner kick as a header from Jessica Price ricocheted off the crossbar and was cleared by the Bulldog defense.

FSU goalkeepers Kelsey Wys, Taylor Vancil and Monterae Carter all split time between the posts for the Seminoles on Saturday.

Florida State resumes its spring schedule against the University of Miami on March 25.
