Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State Women’s Soccer team fell 1-0 to visiting Brigham Young University on Friday, April 4 at the Seminole Soccer Complex as the Seminoles dropped their first exhibition match of the spring. With the loss, FSU fell to 2-1-1 this spring with only one match remaining on the schedule.
BYU All-American Katie Larkin provided the only scoring in the match finding the back of the net in the first period. Larkin split a pair of FSU defenders and gently tapped the ball past diving goalkeeper Kate Milstead for a 1-0 advantage. It was the first goal allowed by Florida State this spring as the Seminoles had posted consecutive shutouts in their first three exhibition matches.
The Garnet and Gold found the back of the net twice against the Cougars but both goals were negated on a foul and an offsides call. The foul occurred on a header by Erika Sutton while Sanna Talonen was called for offsides.
“It’s just a spring game, and we evaluate it as a spring game, but there were some very good things that occurred tonight,” said head coach Mark Krikorian. “Even though you always want to win, the result of the game is inconsequential. The spring is about how the players are progressing in the things that we’re working on in training which will help us in the fall. It’s all about the fall.”
Florida State will wrap-up its spring exhibition schedule on Saturday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. as the Seminoles travel to Melbourne, Fla., to take on UCF.
