TAMPA, Fla. (AP)- Forward B.B. Waldon posted game-highs with 18 points and
nine rebounds to lead South Florida past Florida State 66-55 Saturday night.
South Florida (9-4) had a 43-35 lead midway through the second half, but Ron
Hale led the Seminoles (6-6) on a 10-2 run to tie it at 45 with 8:17 left to
Three minutes later, Oliver Simmons put Florida State up 52-50, but South
Florida responded with a 14-1 run to seal their fourth consecutive victory. The
Seminoles also came into the game with a three-game winning streak.
Waldon, an All-America candidate, was one of four players to score in double
figures for the Bulls. Altron Jackson scored 15 points, Chonsey Asbury had 12
and Cedric Smith added 11.
Hale scored a team-high 17 points for the Seminoles, leaving the guard just
two points shy of 1,000 career points. Damous Anderson came off the Florida
State bench to score 15.
Florida State still holds a 19-10 lead in the all-time series between the
two schools, but has not won at the Sun Dome since Dec. 16, 1989. The home team
has won the last seven meetings.
