FSU Football Gets Back To Work After Road Win At Colorado

Sept. 18, 2007

Tallahassee, Fla.After taking Monday night off, the Seminole football team returned to work on Tuesday with an 18 period practice in uppers. Most of the practice was spent working against Alabama scout teams. FSU has two weeks to prepare for the newly-ranked Crimson Tide (3-0). The game, labeled the River City Showdown, will take place in Jacksonville‘s Municipal Stadium.

  • An MRI of Maurice Harris’ left knee revealed a sprain. The freshman, who plays on special teams, is expected to miss the Alabama game.

While most of the day was spent working versus the scout teams, the Seminoles did work on pass rush, in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11. Here are the highlights:

Head Coach Bobby Bowden:

Opening statement:

“Had a pretty good practice, of course came out in shells. The guy we are concerned about most is (Charlie) Graham, we are working (Caz) Piurowski at end and tackle just in case he is not able to go but he’s got this week to get well and that’s the only question mark we have right now.”

On Caz Piurowski working on tight end and offensive line:

“Piurowski just gotta learn the assignments. We’ve used him on the goal line and we’ll continue to use him on the goal line. And of course if Graham cannot go, we’ll probably step him up.”

On what to do this bye week:

“Well the biggest thing is correcting mistakes, there is no doubt about that, if you correct mistakes, you get better. We had enough plays offensively where if just one guy had gotten their man it would popped all the way to the goal. If we could just correct our errors, we would be a better football team, but of course we will work on Alabama stuff.”

DL Andre Fluellen:

On not being able to play at Colorado:

“I always want to play, especially if I go out there and dress out. I wanted to play so bad, but if they needed me I would had, especially with Letroy (Guion) and Budd (Thacker) doing their thing they didn’t really need me. We didn’t want to risk anymore injury.”

On what is going to help his injury:

“I just hyper extended my elbow. It was a little bit worse then I thought it was. It’s been hurting ever since I did it so I knew something was going on. I’m glad we have a bye week this weekend and a lot of rest. I’m at the training room 6 o’clock every morning so just need to get rest.”

WR Damon McDaniel:

On how the by-week will help the team:

“It’s very helpful especially coming against Alabama, they had a big win over Arkansas last week, so just get fresh legs come out here, work, stay in shape and getting little stuff we need to work on.”

On what he wants to do for the team:

“Anything they want me to do, I’ll go out there and do it. I want to make plays, too. Preston (Parker) is doing his thing, and I hope he keeps doing the same thing and staying focus, but I’m right behind him if they need me.”
