TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – The Florida State Women’s Soccer team is headed to Memphis, Tenn., for the second and third rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Following a 2-0 first round victory over Samford last Friday at the Seminole Soccer Complex, the Garnet & Gold will face the Portland Pilots in the NCAA Second Round in Memphis on Friday, November 18. Game time is set for 5:00 CT.
The second round meeting is a rematch of an earlier regular season battle in which the Pilots defeated the Seminoles 2-1 in Portland. All three goals were scored in the first half with Portland’s Danielle Foxhoven accounting for both Pilot goals including the game-winner on a penalty kick with 44 seconds left before intermission.
Tiffany McCarty accounted for the lone Florida State goal as the Seminoles finished the contest with a 22-11 advantage in shots.
The other two schools joining Florida State and Portland in Memphis are school host Memphis and Louisville. The Tigers and Cardinals are scheduled to square-off in the second match on Friday at 7:30 CT. The winner of Florida State/Portland and Memphis/Louisville will face-off on Sunday, November 20 at 2:00 pm CT.
The Seminoles have faced all three schools in the past posting a winning mark against Louisville and Memphis. FSU is 1-3 all-time against Portland and 0-1 on neutral soil. The lone neutral site meeting came in 2001 as the Pilots posted a 3-1 victory in Winston-Salem, N.C. Portland has won the last two meetings in the series. Florida State is 1-0 against both Memphis and Louisville. The Seminoles last faced the Tigers back in their inaugural season in 1995, a 3-1 victory for FSU in Baton Rouge, La. Florida State defeated Louisville 3-2 in Tallahassee back in 2001.
