TALLAHASSEE, FL. –
The 24th-ranked Florida State softball team found out
around 9:45 Sunday evening that they would be heading to Los Angeles, Ca. for
the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Seminoles first round opponent will be Long
Beach State in a regional hosted by defending national champions UCLA.

Florida State earned an automatic bid into the tournament by winning the
Southern Atlantic Softball Alliance and is the fourth seed in the Los Angeles
Regional. The other three teams joining host UCLA, FSU and Long Beach State
are second-seed Iowa (44-13), fifth-seed Bethune-Cookman (39-25) and
sixth-seed Canisius (33-22).

“I don’t know a whole lot about Long Beach State,” said FSU assistant
coach Louie Berndt. “They have some talented kids and they have played some
tough teams out there in the west but anyone can beat anyone on any given
day.”

The Lady Seminoles enter the NCAA Tournament with a record of 48-25 while
Long Beach State is 39-21. The regional will begin play on Thursday and the
times are TBA.
