Lady Seminoles – Florida State

  • Record: 8-17.
  • Conference: 1-11 in the ACC.
  • Current Streak: Lost 4.
  • Series vs. Clemson: Florida State leads the series 13-8 and has won 3 of the last 5 meetings. The Lady Seminoles downed the Tigers 3-1 in Tallahassee last year, but were swept earlier this season at Clemson.
  • Series vs. Georgia Tech: The Lady Seminoles trail 4-13. Florida State has won the last two meetings in Tully Gym including a 3-0 sweep last October. In 1999, the Yellowjackets swept past FSU in Atlanta on October 9th.

  • Playing without three starters, the Lady Seminoles fell in four games in Tully Gym. Thornton (hand), Hibbard (ankle), Frye (ankle) were sidelined for the match. Duke outhit FSU .300 to .205 and outblocked the 12-9. Junior OH Jennifer Werrick recorded personal season-highs with 25 kills and 20 digs. Freshman setter Tara Visser posted her first career double-double with 50 assists and 12 digs.


    Wake Forest 3, Florida State 0

  • The Demon Deacons recorded their second-ever win over FSU with a 3-0 sweep of the Lady Seminoles Sunday. Florida State hit just .090 in the match including a -.056 percentage in game two. Sophomore MH Norisha Campbell led the Noles with 10 kills.

  • Conference: 12-1 in the ACC.
  • Lately: The Tigers have won 8 straight since their only loss of the season 1-3 to North Carolina on October 9th.
  • Coach: Jolene Jordan Hoover, 6th year at CU.
  • First Meeting of 1999: Junior OH Jennifer Werrick recorded 13 kills, but FSU fell in three games at Jervey Gym. FSU played with Aisha Thornton (ill) and Kristin Frye (ankle). Clemson outhit the Lady Seminoles .400 to .042. Norisha Campbell led FSU with a .300 percentage on 8 kills. She also added 4 blocks in the defeat.


    Georgia Tech Yellowjackets

  • Current Record: 15-11.
  • Conference: 5-8 in the ACC.
  • Lately: The Yellowjackets have lost 5 straight road matches and 5 of their last 7 overall.
  • Coach: Shelton Collier, 9th season at Tech.
  • First Meeting of 1999: Despite 16 strong kills from Norisha Campbell, FSU fell in straight games in Atlanta. Jennifer Werrick tallied double-digit kills with 13, but FSU struggled as a team, hitting just .129 in the match. FSU rallied for a .235 performance in game two on 27 kills but fell 14-16. Thornton and Frye were again out of action for the Lady Seminoles.

  • Head coach Dr. Cecile Reynaud is approaching the 600-victory plateau. She enters this week’s play with a total of 597 career victories, all as head coach of the Lady Seminoles.


    Double-Digit Numbers

  • Junior outside hitter Jennifer Werrick has been FSU’s offensive leader throughout the season. Werrick has double-digit kill totals in 17 of 22 matches played in 1999. She tallied 10 or more kills in 9 of 12 matches for the Lady Seminoles this month and recorded a career-high 27 kills against UT-Arlington on September 10th. She and MH Aisha Thornton have each topped 20 kills in three matches this season. Thornton notched 23 against Maryland on October 1st.
    15-0 Win, It’s An Annual Event

  • Florida State powered past NC State 15-0 in game four Sunday in Tully Gym to nail down its first ACC victory of the season. The Lady Seminoles now have four 15-0 game victories over the past three seasons, all in Tully Gym.

    Ranked Opponents Remain

  • Of Florida State’s five remaining regular season matches, three are against ranked opponents. The Lady Seminoles host #14 Clemson Friday then face #4 Florida in Gainesville Tuesday, and #22 North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Friday, November 12th.
    Georgia Tech at Clemson: Tuesday

  • Clemson swept past Georgia Tech Tuesday in Jervey Gym 15-3, 15-1, 17-15 for its 12th ACC victory of the season. Alison Coday, Jessi Betcher, and Jodi Steffes recorded double-doubles for the Tigers. Clemson outhit Tech .365 to .108 and outblocked GT 10 to 4.

  • Freshman outside hitter Kristin Frye (ankle) remains out of action for the Lady Seminoles this weekend. Senior Aisha Thornton’s (hand) status will be evaluated on a day-by-day basis.
