TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Second-ranked Florida State (24-4) wraps up its five-game home stand with a two-game, mid-week series against Florida Gulf Coast (10-18) beginning Tuesday, April 3 at 6:00 p.m. on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium.
The Seminoles lead the all-time series 4-0 with all four previous games played in Tallahassee. Two of the four contests have been decided by two runs, while Florida State posted its largest margin of victory of 11 runs in a 13-2 victory last year.
In 2011, FSU outscored the Eagles 19-6 en route to the two-game sweep. The Seminoles hit .365 as a team with 27 hits including nine for extra bases. The Florida State pitching staff posted a 2.50 ERA allowing five earned runs with 16 strikeouts in 18.0 innings of work. Last year, Jayce Boyd collected five hits in eight at-bats with a double, triple and four RBI.
The two schools first met in 2009 in Tallahassee with the Seminoles winning both games by scores of 13-3 and 11-9.
Florida State owns a 3-0 record against schools from the Atlantic Sun in 2011 and 7-3 against schools from the state of Florida. Following the FGCU series, the Seminoles have seven games left against in-state schools.
The Seminoles enters the mid-week contest with their highest ranking of the season at No. 2 by three of the four major polls (Baseball America, ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ and NCBWA). The fourth poll, Collegiate Baseball, has the Noles at No. 3 this week.
