Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State men’s and women’s cross country teams host the Florida Intercollegiate Championships, the only home cross country meet of the 2004 season this Saturday, September 11, 2004, starting at 7:30 a.m. The meet will take place at Miccosukee Greenway in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Seminoles are coming off a season-opening win at the Mountaineer Open in Boone, N.C. The men’s team put forth a 21-point performance en route to winning the meet title while the women posted 19 points. Five-time All-American senior Natalie Hughes (Grand Junction, CO/Palisade) and sophomore sensation Luke Beevor (Luton, England/Icknield) won the individual 5K and 8K races, respectively. Beevor earned Atlantic Coast Conference Performer of the Week honors for the week of August 30 – September 6, 2004.
At the 2003 Florida Intercollegiate, the Seminole men outscored Georgia State by three points to claim the men’s trophy while the women won with 28 points with the next closest team (University of Tampa) recording 90. Then-sophomore Kevin Cook (Fern Park, FL/Lyman) won the meet in 24:51.48 while then-junior Hughes took third place in 18:11.06.
The meet begins at 7:30 a.m. with the start of the men’s college and open 8000m race. The women’s 5000m college and open race begins at 8:10 a.m. followed by the high school and junior varsity boys and girls 5K sections.
