Fresh off a six-day road trip, the Florida State softball program hosts its finally tournament of the season as 10 teams assemble upon Tallahassee this weekend for the 2005 FSU Invitational. The three-day event will take place at both the Seminole Softball Complex and Messer Park. The nine other teams include: Eastern Kentucky, Florida A&M, Georgia State, Iowa State, Maryland, Radford, Saint Joseph’s, Southern Illinois, and Troy. The Seminoles are in Pool A with Iowa State, Eastern Kentucky, Radford and St. Joseph’s.
FSU is 15-8 on the season and 3-2 in ACC action and the Seminoles earned their first ACC Softball Player of the Week honor this week when sophomore LaShaun Davis was selected thanks to an outstanding performance at the plate. Florida State launched league play last Friday with a three-game series with North Carolina, where the Seminoles went 2-1. Monday, the Seminoles split with NC State (1-1) and their final outing with the Wolfpack was rained out Tuesday in Raleigh.
The Seminole’s first opponent of the tournament is Big 12 foe, Iowa State, Friday at 3:00 p.m. and a battle with Saint Joseph’s follows the game at approximately 5:00 p.m. The FSU Invitational opens at 11:00 a.m. Friday with a match-up between Iowa State and Radford, respectively. At the Seminole Softball Complex, Southern Illinois and Troy State throw out the first pitch of the day at 1:00 p.m.
